doing business.
To facilitate smooth transactions through the stages of our clients’ personal

planning, Will preparation and estate administration. Assistance with

Firm History
Many members of the firm and its predecessors firms have gone on to greater
things. Mr. Justice Reid Bowlby was appointed to the Ontario Court
of Appeal. William Parker was appointed to the Supreme Court of Ontario
and became Chief Justice of Ontario. Frances Weatherston was appointed
to the Trial Division of the Supreme Court of Ontario and then elevated
to the Ontario Court of Appeal. John Bowlby, son of Mr. Justice Reid
Bowlby, was also appointed to the Supreme Court of Ontario.
In more recent years, Thomas Lofchik was appointed to the Ontario Court,
General Division and is a sitting trial judge. George Stephen Gage was
appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice and currently sits as a criminal
justice in Toronto.
The firm has played a part in legal governance. John Bowlby was Treasurer
of the Law Society of Upper Canada and John Douglas Thoman was a bencher
of the Law Society of Upper Canada. John Soule has been a Director
of the Advocates Society.
J. Douglas Thoman was president of the Hamilton Law Association, the
Hamilton Medical Legal Society and was ultimately chairman of the County
of District’s Law Presidents Association. Members of the firm have
been presidents of the Hamilton Lawyers’ Club.
The firm has always had a strong commitment to legal education with various
members teaching advocacy skills, specifically oriented legal lectures
in connection with recent developments in evidence, civil litigation and
insurance law.
